The Scam Vulnerability Test

Six messages and calls, shown the way someone targeting you would actually send them. Say what you would do. There are no trick questions and no wrong-answer shaming; the point is to find the one habit that would have protected you, and give it to you.

A higher score means better instincts against these six. Nobody scores everything, and the fixes below matter more than the number.

Message by message

A NOTE FROM ORDERED Two habits defend against almost every message above: when anything is urgent about money or codes, hang up and call back on a number you already have, and never read a code aloud to anyone. If you would like the accounts, the phone, and the family all set up so these attempts fail quietly, that is part of what we do, and for a household looking after an older parent it is most of an engagement called Looking After Mom and Dad.

These scenarios are composites of common fraud patterns and are here to teach, not to diagnose. If money has already moved, call your bank first, then local police. If you are helping an older adult, the same message from a familiar voice deserves the same callback, every time.
